1. Brief Introduction

The post-doctoral research station of chemical engineering and technology relies on the Faculty of Chemical Engineering in Kunming University of Science and Technology. This department was established in 1958, and started to recruit master's degree students in applied chemistry in 1986. In 2004 and 2018, it was authorized to awardmaster's and doctoral degree forchemical engineering and technology, respectively, becoming the only organization with the authority to award first-class doctoral degree for this discipline in Yunnan province.

There are 49 faculty members, including 23 professors and 11 PhD supervisors. Among them, there are 1 Yunling Scholar, 5 academic and technical leaders of Yunnan province, 2 high-level foreign experts of Yunnan province, 1 person selected by New Century Talent Project, 1 beneficiary of state council special allowance.

There are 3 national platforms and 9 provincial platforms to provide good research facilities for this research station. During the past five years, the research teams in the station have undertaken 5 national key projects and achieved 5 provincial prizes of scientific invention award. More than 643 scientific research projects and 156 invention patents were published or authorized, 31 technologies realized the industrialized applications. The research funding reached 69.36 million yuan.

The research station aimsto service on themajor needs of the regional economy and to cultivate high-end talents for chemical engineering. It mainly focuses on the efficient utilization and conversion of characteristic resources of Yunnan province, including phosphate rock and plant, etc. Thisresearchstation has reached the advanced international level in some research fields, especially in thermal phosphorus chemical process, phosphorous-based flame retardant and energy storage materials and high-value utilization of biomass.

2. Research Activities

In order to effectively utilize abundant phosphorus and biomass resources in Yunnan, the research station has established three distinctive disciplines including phosphorus chemical engineering, biomass chemical engineering, and environmental chemical engineering:

(1) Phosphorus Chemical Engineering

This station focuses on three distinctive research fields, including energy conservation and emission reduction for foundational phosphorus chemical industry, phosphorus-based flame-retardant materials, and phosphorus-based electronic materials. Significant achievements have been made in refining of yellow phosphorus, purification of phosphoric acid from wet-process, preparation of high-value phosphorous-containing functional materials. In particular, the energy-saving technologies for thermal method phosphorus reached the international advanced level.

(2) Biomass Chemical Engineering

Biomass chemical engineering mainly involves the purification and pulping of active components and development of energy and products based on biomass. The research station has carried out systematic research on the separation and purification of turpentine components and the conversion of derivatives, the efficient extraction of three major components in plants, the preparation of pulp, paper, as well as pollution control.

(3) Environmental Chemical Engineering

Focusing on efficient resource utilization and recycling, continuous research has been conducted on solid waste resource utilization, efficient CO₂/SO₂ capture, storage, and transformation.
