Since founded in Aug.1954, the Discipline of Mechanics in Kunming University of Science and Technology has developed for nearly 60 years. Nowadays, the discipline has been built as an advantage and characteristic department which service on local economic development with its high international reputation and domestic leading place. The academic team of this discipline consisted of 54 staffs with rational academic background, research degree, academic title and age structure, including 24 PhD supervisors and 16 Master supervisors. There are 31 professors and 15 associate professors in this group, in which 34 persons have PhD degree. 7 peoples are less than 35 years old and 10 peoples beyond 55. Lots of research and education platform are built in last 10 years, such as the Laboratory of High Performance Computation (HPC), Laboratory of water- machinery-electricity coupling for hydro plant, Laboratory for earthquake-resistance engineering, Laboratory of experiment for engineering mechanics, Yunnan Key Laboratory for mechanics properties and microstructure of advanced materials.

We have 6 secondary disciplines as dynamics and control, fluid mechanics, engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, mechanics of disaster prevention and computation for dynamic system. The research direction for the disciplines include numerical simulation for fluid/structure interaction, thermal stress engineering, nonlinear dynamic theory and analytical methods, high performance computational mechanics, mechanics behaviors of novel material and design for microstructures of novel materials.
