1. Basic situation

The discipline of power engineering and engineering thermal physics in Kunming University of Science and Technology can be traced back to the specialty of thermal power engineering and hydropower station power engineering established in 1978. This discipline was approved in 2001 as a master's degree program in the second-level discipline of thermal energy engineering. In 2005, a second-level doctoral program in metallurgical energy engineering was set up under a doctoral degree in the first-level discipline of metallurgical engineering. Physics first-level discipline master's degree authorization point, approved as a doctoral degree authorization construction discipline in Yunnan province in 2011, first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point in 2018, and national post-doctoral research mobile station in 2019.

The discipline has strong scientific research strength and high academic level, the discipline has many scientific research platforms, such as the state key laboratory for clean and utilization of complex nonferrous metal resources, the national evaluation center of industrial energy saving and green development, the national research center of metallurgy chemical industry energy conservation and environmental protection technology engineering, the national local joint engineering laboratory of lithium ion battery and material preparation technology, metallurgical energy saving and emission reduction engineering research center of the education ministry, and other 18 national and provincial scientific research platforms.

There are 53 researchers in the discipline, including 20 professors, 17 associate professors and 11 supervisors of PhD degree.Under the guidance of the old generation experts of industrial furnace, water wheel machinery and hydropower, and the unremitting efforts of young and middle-aged researchers, four distinctive directions of engineering thermal physics, thermal engineering, new energy science and engineering, and fluid machinery and engineering have been formed around the efficient and clean development, production conversion and utilization of energy.

2. Research direction

Engineering thermal physics (clean combustion and thermal physics) direction to conventional fuels and combustible solid waste clean combustion theory, energy utilization and system analysis as the research direction, relying on science and technology department of metallurgical energy conservation and emissions reduction innovation team, metallurgy, energy conservation and emissions reduction engineering research center of provincial scientific research team and platform, the ministry of education for solid waste harmless incineration technology and equipment research and development of energy, biomass fuel and the functionalization of metallurgical process coupled with theory and method, the energy in the molten salt catalytic efficient conversion technology research. It has been awarded 5 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, 43 national patents, and published 4 monographs and textbooks, providing technical support for solid waste treatment, energy development and utilization industries.

Thermal engineering (industrial furnaces and heat and mass transfer process enhancement) aims at developing new high-efficiency and energy-saving industrial furnaces and process enhancement technology, and studies the scientific problems of thermal process such as "transfer of mass, momentum and energy, and reaction", industrial furnaces and equipment optimization design. It has distinctive characteristics in the research fields of smelting process strengthening, special metallurgical furnace design and optimization control. The developed technology of oxygen-enriched swirl chaotic agitation in the melting furnace has realized the industrial application. The vacuum distillation furnace and microwave device developed by the research and development are applied to metallurgy and material industry, and have been applied to more than 100 units (sets) in the world, winning 3 national science and technology awards, supporting the construction of state-level science and technology platforms such as the state key laboratory for the clean utilization of complex non-ferrous metal resources jointly built by the ministry and the province.

New energy science and engineering (new energy technology and application) including the solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy conversion and utilization of low efficiency, low cost, relying on the lithium ion battery and material preparation technology national local joint engineering laboratory, metallurgical silicon and silicon material innovation team of Yunnan province and other countries and provincial scientific research platform and innovation team, solar battery core materials preparation and purification process, energy storage with lithium ion battery energy storage of thermal physical and thermal management, electrode material preparation process of heat transfer and multiphase chemical reaction control, biomass thermo-chemical conversion and other basic theory research and technology development. Three provincial and ministerial science and technology awards were awarded, and two achievements were realized in technology transformation and application.

Fluid machinery and engineering (fluid machinery and system control) focuses on fluid machinery and its systems, and adopts numerical simulation combined with theoretical analysis to study mechanical seal, hydraulic mechanical structure characteristics, hydraulic stability and other issues. By combining the nonlinear control theory with the multi-field coupling dynamics theory and the multi-energy complementary wide-area system control theory of hydropower station, the paper explores the dynamic mechanism of the operation stability and control of hydropower station units in the mode of hydraulic machinery and multi-energy complementary mode, so as to improve the overall operation control performance of hydraulic machinery equipment. Relying on the water electromechanical coupling laboratory, the fluid-solid coupling innovation team of Yunnan province, and combining with the hydropower station in the river basin of central and western China to carry out engineering research, has formed an advantageous and characteristic research direction.
