Relies on environmental science and engineering discipline, this station was established since 1978, it is one of the earliest environmental post-doctoral program founded in China. Under the tender care of the University leaders, supports from various departments and hardworking of every staff, the environmental science and engineering has been developed to become a significant and influential discipline national wide. In the results of 2012 discipline evaluation (announced in 2013), among 82 evaluated facilities, we were ranked No.10 and No.26, which tied with Jilin University, Donghua university, Shanghai University, and Sichuan University.

In 1982, the environmental engineering major was among the first batch that was authorized to award academic master degree, in 1999, the environmental engineering major was then authorized to award industrial master degree. In 2000, the discipline was deemed qualified by ministry of education to award doctoral degree. In 2002, the environmental science major was authorized to award master of engineering. Currently, the discipline has three undergraduate major which are environmental engineering, environmental science and science and technology of recycle and reuse. The environmental engineering is qualified to grant the doctor of engineering degree, master of engineering degree and industrial master degree. The environmental science major is qualified to grant master of engineering degree. In 2000, the environmental engineering was selected by Yunnan provincial education commission as provincial Key major. In 2005, the first-class doctoral discipline of environmental science and engineering were successfully applied and approved. In 2006, the “Solid waste disposal and treatment” course was granted to be the national excellent course. In 2007, successfully declared the national environmental engineering key discipline (Nurture). In 2008, the environmental engineering major successfully passed the “National Accreditation of Engineering Education in Higher Education Institutions”, the “Waste Recycle and Comprehensive Utilization” faculty was awarded the national class teaching team.In 2009,the discipline was awarded the first prize of nationalclass higher education achievements, and in 2014 It was awarded the second prize of national class higher education achievements. In 2016, it was awarded Yunnan regional class higher education achievement. The‘Key technologies for yellow phosphorus catalytical treatment’ was awarded the first prize of Yunnan technological invention prize in 2012. ‘Catalytic purification technology and its application for ore furnace tail gas treatment’ was awarded the first prize of the Chinese science and technology award for non-ferrous metal industry in 2012. ‘The technology and application for yellow phosphorus tail gas catalytic treatment’ was awarded second prize of national technology invention award in 2014. ‘The pollution control and eco-recovery technologies for early stage eutrophication’ was awarded second prize of 2014 Yunnan scientific advancement award. In addition, there also are 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes of provincial level awards.

Since 2000, the post-doctoral station presided over 6 nation’s 863 programs, participated 1 nation’s 973 program, and hosted 2 major water programs funded by national the eleventh five year program. The station also presides over 60 national nature science grand, 4 international collaborations and more than 1000 provincial level programs. The gross funds of the station exceeded 300 million RMB. The research teams in the station were awarded 1 second prize of national scientific invention award, 19 provincial level awards, and published 1700 papers, and 700 of these papers have been included in SCI and EI indexes. The station also has 200 patents, and published 60 monographs.

The post-doctoral station aims to implement scientific outlook of development and serve the needs of regional economy growth and society building. The station along with the university take building the energy saving and environmental friendly society as their own responsibility, in order to achieve national leading discipline. This post-doctoral station, with personnel training as the core, science research as the motivation and social service as the duty, focus on solving the environmental issues of nonferrous metallurgy and chemical industries, nurturing environmental professionals with good political quality, and strong professional and innovative abilities. The discipline has several national class platforms such as national engineering research centre of solid waste material reclamation, national environmental protection and industrial reuse engineering technology (Kunming) centre, national and regional combined engineering technology centre of metallurgical and chemical industrial waste gas, Yunnan industrial waste gas treatment and reuse engineering technology centre, Yunnan western typical industry environmental pollution control and innovation centre,Key laboratory of Yunnancolleges and universities environmental Prevention and cure, Key laboratory of Yunnan colleges and universities environmental soil science, etc., which provides essential supporting conditions for scientific innovation and talents training.

There is a group of highly professional and talented staff serving this station. Currently, there are 67 full-time teachers, including 21 professors, 25 associate professors. Among the staff, there are 1 nationally outstanding teacher, 1 with national special support plan for high-level talents, 1 winner of Excellent youth fund of NSFC, 1 within the national key talent project, 2 beneficiary of state council special allowance, 1 Yunnan province distinguished professor, 1 selected by New Century Talent Project, and 8 young academic leaders of Yunnan province, etc.
