Post-doctoral Research Station in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering

  1. 1.     Brief introduction

      The department of metallurgical engineering was established in 1954, which is one of the characteristic disciplines of our school. In 2001, metallurgical engineering was approved as the provincial key discipline. The nonferrous metallurgy was approved as the national Key disciplines and metallurgical physical chemistry was approved  as provincial-university co-establishing key discipline in 2002. There are 110 faculty members, including 1 academicians, 32 full professors and 39 associate professors. Through continuous development, the department of metallurgical engineering have been engaged in teaching and scientific research and society service for the contributions to the local economy, scientific research and education. Four academicians including XU Zhaoyao, YIN Zhiwen, ZHANG Guocheng and DAI Yongnian are the distinguished representatives of a large number of the outstanding scholars.

      The postdoctoral research station in the department of metallurgical engineering prides itself on good research facilities, in which there are 1 National Laboratory for Vacuum Metallurgy, 1 State Key Laboratory of Complex Nonferrous Metal Resources Clear Utilization in Yunnan Province, 1 National Joint Engineering Laboratory for Microwave Energy Engineering and Equipment, 11 provincial key laboratories / centers such as Engineering Research Center of Metallurgical Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction( Ministry of Education) and 2 international joint laboratories. During the past five years, more than 400 scientific research projects have been performed,  more than 40 monographs and 350 papers have been published.

      The postdoctoral program actively strengthens the combination of industry and research and the transformation of the technological achievements, which provides technical support for industrial development. The equipment and technology of “ internal heating multi-stage continuous distillation vacuum furnace” and “horizontal vacuum furnace” have been spreaded and utilized in more than 40 enterprises in domestic and abroad such as Brazil, Bolivia, Vietnam, the United States and the United Kingdom, etc. with total output value of  2 billions of dollars. New technology of “Zinc extraction from complex refractory zinc oxide ore and zinc oxide leaching slag with zero emission extraction” has been used in Yunnan with the annual output value of 300 million yuan and annual profit of 250 million yuan. The technology of “Preparation of  new energy-saving inert electrode materials in non-ferrous metallurgical industry” has been applied in many enterprises in Yunnan, Fujian, South Africa and Congo, etc.  The large-scale, continuous, automatic and  high-temperature microwave production line has been first established and successfully applied in metallurgy, energy, chemical engineering and tobacco, etc. The microwave reactors, production lines and related technologies have made the cumulative output value of 976 million yuan and the profits of 242 million yuan.

      In addition, the postdoctoral research station has established long-term cooperative relationship with colleges , universities, enterprises and research institutes in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Japan, Spain, Portugal and Vietnam, etc. There are also Joint doctoral Fellowship Program with the Australian Federal Organization of Sciences and the University of Newcastle.

  1. 2.     ResearchActivities

      In order to solve the problems existing in the metallurgical industry, the postoctoral station focuses on intensive research activity of important basic theories and key technical problems in the process of metal metallurgy  based on the characteristics of national and local metal resources.  Five distinctive research fields have been formed with the development of efficient, energy-saving and clean metallurgical technology and valorisation of metallurgical waste.

·        Clear utilization of complex metal resources

·        New metallurgical materials
